Check out this much loved Speedwell from the 1970’s. It was brought into our workshop for some basic maintenance by the original owner who bought it as a ten year old with the savings from his paper round. He has cared for it lovingly ever since but hasn’t ridden it too much, judging by the original rubber which still graced its sturdy steel rims. Now we’ve replaced the perishing old tyres and serviced the gears it will be good for another half century – at least. Its geometry makes the handling kind of weird, but changing gears is pure joy. The gear stick mounted on the top tube interfaces with the three-speed Sturmey-Archer hub beautifully. Time has been kind to this rig.
